It's what's inside that counts: DNA-barcoding of porcini (Boletus sp., Basidiomycota) commercial products reveals product mislabelling

چکیده
In the edible mushroom market, porcini (Boletus edulis Bull., and related species) are a very economically valuable product, with 20–100 tons of these mushrooms being sold each year worldwide. However, products as “Boletus edulis” often mix different species, some them less value than but at same price. DNA-Barcoding is powerful tool that can help uncover this kind fraud in rapid accurate way. study, we combine visual inspection DNA barcoding phylogenetic analyses to assess quality provide identifications nine dehydrated commercial destined for human consumption. was extracted internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region, fungal barcode, amplified sequenced from total 108 samples (twelve per product) five reference Boletus sp. sporocarps UVigo-FUNGI fungarium. Five contained various states decay, worm infestation pathogen contamination, which would not be suitable sale fresh following current legislation. B. only found three products, reticulatus most abundant species. Two Asian species porcini, bainiugan meiweiniuganjun, were also one product during analyses. Three non-porcini Boletaceae found, (Imleria badia) could identified level. Lastly, four Hypomyces chlorinigenus, indicating decay sporocarps. Overall, our results show DNA-barcoding identification mislabelling

Molecular phylogenetics of porcini mushrooms (Boletus section Boletus).
Porcini (Boletus section Boletus: Boletaceae: Boletineae: Boletales) are a conspicuous group of wild, edible mushrooms characterized by fleshy fruiting bodies with a poroid hymenophore that is "stuffed" with white hyphae when young. Their reported distribution is with ectomycorrhizal plants throughout the Northern Hemisphere. Little progress has been made on the systematics of this group using ...
متن کاملSpecies identification reveals mislabeling of important fish products in Iran by DNA barcoding
This study reports on the molecular identification of fish species from processed products which had a priori been classified as belonging to 5 important species in Iran for human consumption. DNA barcoding using direct sequencing of an approximately 650bp of mitochondrial Cytochrome oxidase subunit I (COI) gene revealed incorrect labeling of Narrow-barred Spanish mackerel samples. High occurre...

متن کاملDNA barcoding the commercial Chinese caterpillar fungus.
Chinese caterpillar fungus (Ophiocordyceps sinensis) has been widely used as tonic in Asian medicine. Considering its curative effect and high cost, various counterfeit versions of O. sinensis have been introduced and are commercially available. These counterfeits have morphological characteristics that are difficult to distinguish based on morphology alone, thereby causing confusion and threat...
